2008 Olympic Games

Competing for the first time sincefalling to the track with a hamstring injury six weeks ago, Tyson Gay, who is America's fastest sprinter, enjoyed a smooth debut, coasting to the finish to win his preliminary heat in 10.22 seconds.

World record-holder Jamaica Usain Bolt (JAM) and Jamaica Asafa Powell (JAM) also advanced easily, winning their heats. The quarterfinals were set for later Friday.

"It feels good," Gay told the AP, referring to his left hamstring. "I felt a little sluggish the first round, but my body is woke up now."[2]

Tyson Gay claimed to be "100%", but his hamstring was an obvious factor when he failed to make it into the finals. The heats were run under clear blue skies with temperatures around 80 degrees.
