American Samoa is a set of islands in the Pacific Ocean which sends an Olympic Team separate from the United States. It has sent a team to each summer game since 1988 and also to the 1994 winter games.
In 1988, Gary Fanelli, a noted marathon runner from the Mainland United States, ran for American Samoa and finished in 51st place with a time of 2:25.35.
In 1996, American Samoa sent three athletes for track and field events.
In 1997, American Samoa hosted the Pacific Mini Games.
In 2000 and 2004, Kelsey Nakanelua did not advance past the first round of the 100m, and Lisa Misipeka did not advance to the finals of the women's hammer throw.
