As a spin-off of Running Times magazine, Darman, together with Phil Stewart, publish the Road Race Management newsletter and hold an annual conference by that name.

When a schism formed in the Road Runners Club of America, Darman lead a splinter group out of that organization to found the American Association of Running Clubs (AARC), and served as President of the AARC. He also served on the Executive Board of the Professional Road Running Organization, as as RRCA representative on the Board of the USATF.
He was inducted into the RRCA Hall of Fame and the DC Road Runners Club Hall of Fame.
