There are certain precautions that runners should take to make running as safe as possible.

General Tips:

  1. Don't run alone.
  2. Carry a cellphone with you.
  3. Wear reflective clothing.
  4. Carry Identification with you, including notice of any medical allergies (such as an alert bracelet or shoe tag).

Running in a city:

  1. Don't run with headphones, or turn down the volume. Running with headphones is running without one of your five senses - hearing. You are a hazard.
  2. Don't run through parking lots. Drivers have limited vision and may not see you coming.

Running in a foreign city:

  1. Carry the address and phone number of the place you are staying on you, just in case you get lost.

Running trails:

  1. Make sure someone knows where you are running so that if you get hurt and can not make run the trail back, people can find you.

Running at night:

  1. Stay on well-lit routes.
  2. Wear reflective clothing to be seen by motorists.
